Family Sponsorship


Sponsor your eligible family members as permanent residents if you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, at least 18 years old, and meet the eligibility requirement. 

Your eligible family members for family sponsorship include:
  • Spouse
  • Common-law or conjugal partner
  • Dependent children
To be able to sponsor your family members, you must be living in Canada, unless you: 
  • Are a Canadian citizen living abroad, and plan to return to Canada when your relatives immigrate, and are sponsoring your:
    • Spouse
    • Common-law or conjugal partner
    • Dependent children who have no dependent children
You must meet the minimum income cutoff that is expected to be able to provide basic needs for yourself and your relative, such as:
  • Food
  • Shelter
  • Clothing
  • And ensure that your relative doesn’t need social assistance
You will be required to sign a written agreement to financially support your relative and any other eligible relatives immigrating with them to Canada. Your sponsored family member 18 years and above will also be required to sign written agreement to make effort to be support themselves.

You may be able to sponsor your parent and grandparent as permanent residents, and in certain specific instances brother, sister, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, grandchild.

Your family member must be admissible to Canada.
